This is a straightforward, naturalistic and gentle book; Eddie, helped by his little sister Lily and his (apparently single) Mum decides to plant a new vegetable garden. The book takes us through the process with the seasons from digging and seed choosing, to sowing, to planting out, to nurture (and the all-important slug protection), to harvest. a little buddie ficlet idea stolen from a mike and harvey fic called ‘A Condition of Happiness’ by eadunne2. if you ship marvey go read that because it’s far superior to what I’ve written. i’m not a fic writer by any stretch so pls be super gentle with me. no beta so I claim any mistakes.

One of the great parts of it is that Cameron didn't give up on Chelsea, eventhough it seems she had. I would totally recommend this book to those who like a little drama here, a baby or two there, mixed up with love and patience/5().

[Ed Koch; Pat Koch Thaler; James Warhola] -- Patty wants very much to act like a big girl when her family goes on vacation, but at age five-and-a-half, she mostly manages to pester her older brother. Little sister Patty learns that even independent and bright little kids should follow rules and that older siblings can be very impressive in an emergency.
An adventure story with great illustrations and an excellent lesson. My grandkids loved this book because it seemed to be their story,too.5/5. EDDIE’S LITTLE SISTER MAKES A SPLASH. (Older brother Harold’s absence is unexplained, a fact that may confuse fans of the Kochs’ earlier book but won’t be noticed by those new to the characters.) Little sister Patty is so young that she doesn’t remember last year’s visit, but she’s old enough to feel hurt when her brother.
But then Tom needs help putting up shelves in the kitchen and asks Eddie to help him as his little girl and Eddie's sister explore the garden together. Soon Eddie is learning to use a saw and hammer and is screwing in hooks to hang cups.

The book started out incredibly strong with the wonderful "Twin Study" and "Velvet" (perfect for anyone who has ever wondered how his or her dog thinks). Some of the others were a bit uneven, but even those were usually fun.4/5.

Such a lovely book about a little boy, his mum and baby sister enjoying their back garden and growing fruit and veg. Contains lots of practical information on growing from seed in a format that small children can readly understand. Highly recommended/5(46).
Barracuda by Australian author Christos Tsiolkas is a book Ive been meaning to read for a very long time. I loved The Slap by the same author but have dragged my heals over this one.

Read this excerpt from "The World on Turtle's Back." One day, when the girl had become a woman, a man appeared. No one knows where this man came from.
Perhaps he was sent from the Gods above. The girl was so filled with wonder to see this strange man, she lost her senses and fainted. The man yielded two very different arrows, and laid them. Britain’s first Olympic ski jumper, whose heroic failure has been turned into a Hollywood biopic, has only recently moved out of the garden shed that was his home during a devastating divorce.
Modern fly-fishing is so different from what Walton practiced in the seventeenth century that the similarities perhaps begin and end with the fish.
Whereas we have a cornucopia of expertly tied artificial flies, floating nylon line, and evolved casting techniques, Walton didn’t even have a reel—he just used a stick with hair tied to the end. Reserving judgments is a matter of infinite hope.
I am still a little afraid of missing something if I forget that, as my father snobbishly suggested, and I snobbishly repeat a sense of the fundamental decencies is parcelled out unequally at birth. And, after boasting this way of.

The family consisted of my father and mother, two older half-brothers, and, afterward, a little sister, Mildred. My earliest distinct recollection of my father is making my way through great drifts of newspapers to his side and finding him alone, holding a sheet of paper before his face.
In researching the Eddie the Eagle true story, we learned that washed up former ski jumper Bronson Peary (Hugh Jackman), who becomes Eddie's coach in the movie, is an almost entirely fictional character.
In the film, it is revealed that the ex-pat American Peary could have been great if ego and alcohol hadn't got in the way. The mist that hid the lower walls swirled in eddies, blown by the freshening wind, and every now and again the breakwater and the harbour entrance appeared, only to be hidden once more.
